There's no single best time to visit Goa. It depends on whether you want beach weather, nightlife, quiet roads or the cheapest hotels. Here's what each season is like.
November to February: peak season
This is the dry, pleasant season, with sunny days and cooler evenings. Beach shacks are open, water sports are running, and the markets and clubs are at their busiest.
Good for: beach holidays, nightlife, first-time visitors. Watch out for: the highest flight and hotel prices of the year, especially from mid-December to the first week of January. For Christmas and New Year, book flights and hotels two to three months ahead.
March to May: hot season
Days get hot and humid, but the sea is still calm and crowds thin out after Easter. Hotel prices start dropping.
Good for: good-value beach trips, quieter resorts, early-morning sightseeing. Watch out for: midday heat. Plan beach time for early morning and late afternoon.
June to September: monsoon
The monsoon brings heavy rain, rough seas and lush green countryside. Most beach shacks close and swimming in the sea is unsafe on many days, but waterfalls like Dudhsagar are at their best and hotel prices are the lowest of the year.
Good for: budget trips, couples, nature lovers, long weekends at a resort with a pool. Watch out for: red-flag days at the beach, and some road and ferry disruption after very heavy rain.
October: shoulder season
The rains ease off and the state gets ready for the new season. You get green landscapes, fewer tourists and prices well below peak.
Good for: travellers who want decent weather without peak-season prices.
